When a Daughter Is Born and Silence Follows
My mom's sister—my aunt—just had her third baby girl. A beautiful, healthy baby girl. But instead of celebration, there was silence. Fake smiles. Cold hearts.
The moment the baby was born, her husband took a quick look from a distance, accepted a few congratulations with a stiff face, and claimed there was a "work emergency" he had to leave for. Her mother-in-law, who was supposed to stay at the hospital, suddenly got "sick" and left. In the end, my mother had to step in and take care of everything. And thank God she did.
Why? Because it wasn't the boy they were all hoping for.
It’s been 16 days since that little soul came into this world. My aunt had a C-section—it takes weeks, sometimes months, to recover—but she’s already back in the kitchen. Why? Because no one at her house is helping her. Her husband barely speaks to her and even has the audacity to complain that she isn’t working like before. Is he serious?
Her mother-in-law is fuming, treating her like she’s done something wrong. And my uncle? He’s too busy being a mama’s boy to care about the emotional or physical wellbeing of his wife or their newborn daughter. He doesn’t hold the baby. He doesn’t sit with her. He doesn't even try to smile. And I swear, the moment I saw his face fall when he was told it was a girl—I lost all respect…
